Educational Events
In response to customer demand, InvestNet has developed three service lines: educational events, in the form of Know-how Network Seminars, Venture Advisory Panels, and Business Plan Competitions; Venture Gatherings, comprised of Venture Breakfasts and Investor Dinners, and the Entrepreneur University Alaska seminars.
KnowHow Network Seminars
Each year, KnowHow Network Seminars are presented in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks and on-line. Participants obtain the tools needed to plan effective business development, observe all legal consideration, obtain financing, determine valuation, and market their products successfully. Entrepreneurs, investors, and service providers also enjoy the opportunity for informal networking at the seminars. Some of our more successful classes have focused on Debt/ Equity Structure within the Start-Up Game, Capital Formation, Business Valuation of Early Stage Companies, Matching Product to Market and High Tech Valuation.
Venture Advisory Panels
Patterned after events held by venture capital networks in Seattle and Philadelphia, venture advisory panels (VAPS) are public events in a reception setting designed to introduce entrepreneurs to service providers, investors and successful business people. Venture Advisory Panels offer the audience and panelists a valuable opportunity to interact and debate issues relevant to risk capital in Alaska. The networking and introductions facilitated have proven to be extremely valuable to participants.
Business Plan Competitions
These competitions provide a definite deal path where Alaskan entrepreneurs looking for capital can connect to investors seeking new opportunities. The intellectual property inherent in the university system can also be capitalized, as these competitions link students with businesses through a mentoring program, leveraging academic energy with practical application. APU and UAA have held joint competitions and efforts are being made for the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) campuses to host similar competitions.
Venture Gatherings
Venture Gatherings provided entrepreneurs a forum in which to present their business plans to accredited investors and professional service providers, as well as to receive informal feedback about the viability of their ventures. Local investors gain practice evaluating business plan presentations and working through the due diligence process. Patterned after successful events from other states, Alaska InvestNet holds various venture gatherings all over Alaska, helping to accelerate business opportunities by showcasing entrepreneurs to people who are seriously interested in making private equity investments.
